“STOMP” has been running Off-Broadway since 1994 and after seeing the show last week it’s clear why it has been so successful for over seventeen years.

The mind-blowing rhythms enrapture you from the beginning, whether it’s with a box of matches, brooms, trash cans or newspapers, you can’t help but bump your head to the beats.

All the performers are wonderfully unique with their own style, their own characters and their own humor. While not a word is uttered in the entire show, the connection is strong and crystal clear between the audience and the performers.

The highlight of the night is the mesmerizing zipo lighter piece. The stage is completely black and each performer is armed with two lighters as they are lined up shoulder to shoulder. What precedes, is an astonishing rhythm piece with the sound of lighters being turned on and off.

This is art at its best, taking something as mundane as a lighter and allowing the audience to see this appliance in a new perspective. This change allows us to see life in a new and different light and therein lies the power of art.

The beauty of “STOMP” is that there are these deep resonating moments for the adults in the audience, but there are also simply fun, enjoyable and awe-inspiring moments for kids. In other words, it’s a true family show.

If you have not seen this show in the seventeen years it’s been open, don’t wait another seventeen … go and see this show with the fam now!
