Obama Speaks On 5-Year Anniversary Of Financial Crisis

In the wake of yet another mass shooting in the nation, President Barack Obama is urging Congress, again, to act on gun control legislation. “The fact that we do not have a firm enough background check system is something that makes us more vulnerable to these kinds of mass shootings,” Obama said. “And, you know, I do get concerned that this becomes a ritual that we go through every three, four months, where we have these horrific mass shootings.” [CBS]

So this happened. A Florida man was arrested after beating an underage victim with a 30-inch metal switch to, get this, the tune of Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines.” He also made the victim, referred to as a relative, hold heavy weights for being “lazy,” hit her in the back of the head with a switch for 40 minutes and made her shovel dirt for 90 minutes. But…now he’s in jail. Read about it, here…[Gawker]

Don Lemon has some words for Black America again. But this time, they aren’t so idiotic. In the wake of the Navy Yard massacre, Lemon weighed in on a huge problem in all communities, mental illness: “So here’s something else for you to think about. These incidents will probably increase if we don’t bring something into the light and discuss it. And that is mental health among black people, or the converse, which is mental illness, which are taboo subjects in our community.” [HuffPost]

A family that commits crimes together…turns out Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev isn’t the only one spending time behind bars. His sister, Bella Tsarnaeva, appeared in Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey, on marijuana charges after she was arrested in December 2012, just months before her brothers allegedly targeted the Boston Marathon.
