October kicks off Breast Cancer Awareness month, a time where the discussion of breast cancer is heightened with events programmed to spread information. Over the years, celebrities have become ever more active in talking about their own battles with breast cancer.

Every year, 40,000 people – including men – die from the disease in the United States. Over 520,000 people lose the battle worldwide. As doctors continue to search for a cure, benefits, walks, and other fundraisers are vigilant about keeping awareness alive.

For some, the stories of celebs like Angelina Jolie, Robin Roberts, and Christina Applegate give people strength and another perspective on the disease.
