A longtime Miami police officer will be taking over as chief of police in Ferguson, Missouri, reports The Grio.

Major Delrish Moss was given the title this past Thursday, putting him in charge of a mostly white police force in a city where African-Americans make up two-thirds of the population. “This has been a long and strenuous process, but we believe Major Moss is the right choice,” says the city’s mayor in statement. “We understand the past 18 months have not been easy for everyone, but the City is now moving forward and we are excited to have Major Moss lead our police department.

Mayor James Knowles III hopes this change helps the community heal after the 2014 tragic killing of Michael Brown, but needless to say, it will take a lot more than officer Moss’s hire to ease the tension in this city.
