The premiere visuals for Nate Parker’s The Birth Of A Nation – a riveting drama about the 1831 slave rebellion – are here, and like the rave reviews from critics and fans, the film looks like a modern masterpiece.

The Birth Of A Nation received a standing ovation at Sundance, where it won the Audience Award and Grand Jury Prize in the U.S. Dramatic Competition and set a new record when it was sold to Fox Searchlight for $17.5 million. Parker stars as Nat Turner, a literate slave whose preaching helps subdue unruly slaves.

“Submit yourselves to your masters with all respect,” he preaches in the riveting clip.

After witnessing wicked acts against his people, though, Nat leads his fellow slaves to a historic bloody rebellion.

The Birth Of A Nation hits theaters October 7. Watch the trailer below.
